Reflective Journal 6

23rd November, 2012.
Friday.

Peace be upon to you all.
Hope you're doing fine right now.
Coz i'm gonna tell you about my previous Elecsys class.
Oh ya! Before that, lets pray for Gaza first.
May Allah gives them strength to face all the challenges that occur now..
Hurmm...:'(

20th November, 2012.
Tuesday.

If last couple weeks ago we have a meeting with Senior General Manager from Canon Optics (M) Sdn. Bhd, for this time we have a meeting with another important person from another company.

The person is Mr Vivek Panicker, the Executive Director of Titan Thermal Solutions from MIMOS company.

1) He speaks about "Overview of Electronic Systems".

According to him, electronic Systems are the grouping of electronic circuits and components which are designed to accomplish one or more complex functions.
It is fundamental to our daily life.
This is because it plays a key role in advancement of technology.
He said that the progressions of electronics systems take place from small to complex architectures and from analog to digital.

2) Next, he also explains about "Role of Electronics in Industry".

Mr Vivek said that electronics plays a vital role in this globalization era especially for current information and technology.
This is because in this era, electronics act as a catalyst to enhanced production and productivity within the industry.

Besides, most of the industries today are heavily depends on electronics.
Without electronics, the production of these industries will decrease.

Conventionally, electronics can be classified into 5 groups.
1) Consumer - the oldest segment of electronic with the advent of radio
                              receivers.
                           - geared towards the push of consumer products. e.g: microwave,
                              nintendo and disc man.
2) Industrial - involve in the usage of machine and the operations.
3) Defence - strategic, creates spin-off electronics for other elements.
4) Communications - current rapid growing.
                                          - benefits from semiconducter etc.

Other than that, electronics also functions in information processing system, medical and imaging.
This is due to the role of electronics itself in these fields.
--> in Information Processing System, it involves in the development of Integrated Circuits (IC's), Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASIC) designs.
--> in Medical, electronics is use in creation medical testing and monitoring equipments.
--> in Imaging, electronics function in development and providing platform for new techniques.

Basically, electronics plays 2 crucial parts in industry:
1) As a platform for development or design new systems.
2) Mean to increase productivity of current systems.

3) Then, Mr Vivek also explains to us about "Overview of Imaging Industry".
Imaging is the representation of an object's outward form.
These are the fields involve in Imaging:
1) Chemical Imaging - simultaneous measurement of spectra and pictures.
2) Digital Imaging - creating digital images [scanning/ digital photography].
3) Geophysical Imaging
4) Medical Imaging - creating images of human.
5) Optical Imaging
6) Radar Imaging - imaging radar.
7) Thermography Imaging - thermal imaging.

4) Next is the "Basic Concepts and Terms".

1) Pixels and Resolution
-> a digital image formed by pixels.
-> smallest piece of information in image.
-> represented using dots, squares or rectangles.
-> "more pixels, more data we have, more clearer the images".

2) Video and Frames

     -> record transition.
-> made a group of pictures captured across a period of time.
-> "more frames per second, less jitter the video.

3) NSTC and PAL

     -> human eyes need minimum 25 frames/sec.

->PAL TV Standard [ use in Asia, Europe, South America and East Africa].
         # use 25 frames/sec with resolution of 320 by 720.

->NSTC TV Standard [ use in North America and Japan].
        # use 30 frames/sec with resolution of 480 by 720.

Specifically, Imaging Industry requires processing and huge quantities of data in a short span.
Co-operate with electronics can help to ease complexities, thus making image technology is affordable nowadays.

At the first time hearing that..I feel like.."What's all this..I don't understand..!!".
Luckily..God hearing my pray..=)

5) Mr Vivek gives more explainations about this by  sharing some  informations about  " Electronic Within Thermal  Imaging Industry."
Only then I feel glad hearing about it..^_^

Based on him.."Electronics Within Thermal Imaging Industry" is originally a spin-off defence electronics.
It is often referred as " dirty imaging system" compared to CCD and CMOS architectures.
Basically..it use 'phi' of 7 to 14 nano micro to form image and also the sensors that make use of focal plane arrays [ commonly Indium Gallium Arsenide (InGaAs)].

Lastly..he explains about Thermal requires Non-Uniformity Calibration (NUC) on data stream.
Below is the formula given to calculate the Incident profile.

************************************************************
*  Incident     =   Emitted      +     Transmitted     +    Reflected   *
*  profile(I)         energy(E)             energy(T)              energy(R)  *
************************************************************

~~ electronic plays important roles in Medical Research, R&D and Maintenance~~

All of this growth from Solid State Devices --> Material Science Development --> Digital Imaging Methodology.

I thinks that's all that I can share with you right now.
Thanks for lending your ears and eyes listening and looking to my entry.
Its quite long I think but I'm pretty sure that you'll be attracted to read it.
Enjoy your day ok! ^_^

*******************************************************************************
Before the class start..
Dr Kamal take this time asking us about "the differences of MJIIT with other faculties and universities".
All of us feel nervous when he suddenly pointed at a person to answer his questions.
Next he explains about the differences of MJIIT with other universities to us.
We feel very grateful because we're chosen to be in this faculty.
Thus..I have promise with myself to study hard to be one of the best student in MJIIT..=)
If Allah wills it..ameen..^_^

Reflective Journal 5

8th Nov, 2012.
Thursday.

ohayou!!
its time for blogging!! =)
well..i start switch on my laptop at 3.30 p.m..
full with determination to finish my new entry before 7 p.m..
but..i've make a mistake..which is i've sign in for Facebook!! haha..
till now (8.54 p.m)..my entry does not finish yet..aigoo..ottoke??
okay2..be focus!! =)

6th Nov, 2012.
Tuesday.

today is another day for my Elecsys class.
but this time we have a special lecture from a special guest..
wondering who?? hurmm..okay..let me give you some hints..
his name start with the letter 'A'..and he's one of the important person in Canon Opto Malaysia..
hurmm..you guys know who is he??
yeah..he's Mr Muhammad Azlan bin Amran..Senior General Manager at Administration Centre of Canon Opto (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd..
my feeling?? of course I feel happy..instead I feel really excited to meet with a person who sits for an important position in a famous company..=)
and for your information..he's Dr Kamal's friend as Dr. Kamal used to work there before he pursued his study and be a lecturer several years ago..^_^

firstly..I will tell you guys some info about Canon Opto (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd..it is one of the Japan's branch company which is Canon itself..and this company is located at Shah Alam..the company description is Manufacture of Optical Instruments And Equipment (SSM).
and some extra info about this company is..it is incorporated in December 1988, Canon Opto (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd produces cameras, optical lenses and optical components. It started production of lenses in November, 1989. And, in June, 1990, it started to manufacture penta prisms and cameras.
this session is divided into 3 session..
the first one is "A Walkthrough to the Production of EF 40mm f/2. STM..

Have you ever heard about OHARA?
it is one of two company that cooperates with Canon Opto (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd by providing lens for Canon which is located at Malacca. The other one company is located at Penang but I'm not too sure about its spelling either SCHOOT or similar with it.

The second session is "Manufacturing Company Roles in the Product Life Cycle".
It is like the principle of a company that must be obeyed by them. Actually..there are 4 basic principles in a company which is EQCD..and Canon followed all the principles.

1) E (environment) - in every single steps taken..they must consider about environment.
2) Q (quality) - quality is priority.
3) C (cost) - low manufacturing cost for reasonable price in market.
4) D (delivery) - the delivery/work must be on time to take care customer's priority.

Besides..Mr Azlan also said that when we're in job life..we don't need to memorise all the things like we do now..
means that if we have something we don't undestand.. we can just simply refer it to books and notes..
hurmm..simple right?? =)
In fact..result is more important than the way w do the job..some employers don't look at our way of doing job but the results we get and the time that we take to finish it..they'll feel impress if you can finish work that need 3 hours to finish it and you can finish it in half an hour..yet..this is a chance for us to grab their attention so that we can improve our position in that company..huhu..

For instance..an engineer must transform "prototype" into "mass production".
I'm not quite sure about this but I think its about our level of thinking in planning a task in order to make it move smoothly.

The last session is "Japanese Work Culture".
Canon adapted 3 basic Japanese culture in their company.

1) "HORENSO"
2) "SAN-GEN" (3 GEN)
3) "5S"

Unfortunately..Mr Azlan just explain the first two of them which are "HORENSO" and "SAN-GEN" as there is not enough time.

1) "HORENSO"
--> HOU : Houkoku means report. A good report must start with a conclusion first and only then we consider about its content.

--> REN : Renraku means contact.

--> SOU : Soudan means consult.

2) "SAN-GEN"
--> GENBA : Site, actual spot

     --> GENBUTSU : Actual thing

     --> GENJITSU : Reality

Along his speech..I thought that he make a joke about poligamy..but then he tolds us that he had two wives instead..
Wow!! Surprising!! but then all we just do is laughing and laughing..huhu..

I think thats all...

Reflection 4

2nd Nov,2012.
Friday.

Hello guys~~
Happy Friday..<3

Hurmm..okay.today I will tell you guys more about what I've learned in ElecSys class last Tuesday..^^..

Oh ya! before I forgot..for this week,, we've another new lecturer for this subject. His name is Dr. Azran Azham bin Noor Azmi..a handsome lecturer who just came back to Malaysia recently after staying for 15 years at Japan..=)
We were so impressed to learn with him. Of course he will teach us about electronics..

30th Oct,2012.
Tuesday.

Today..we have another class for Electronic System (ElecSys)..for this time..Dr Kamal had asked all of us to come (not separated into 2 groups like previous classes).. and go to Level 4 at MJIIT Building because we'll having lecture for this time.

As I arrived there..there are only couples friend of mine have come. The rests did not come yet. While waiting for them, I'm completing my math assignment..(sorry Dr.).. huhu..
Several minutes after that, our class starts when Mr Redzuan come with a person. At first, I thought that the guy is the person-in-charge for computer settings, but when Mr Redzuan said, " Okay, this is our new lecturer, Dr Azran. He gonna teach you about Bioelectronics." What?? okay, now I'm speechless..you know why?? because he looks so simple in appearance..haha..

Class starts as usual..Dr Azran gives a lecture about Introduction to Bioelectronics. Everybody seems to be very focus during the class because it is a new subject for us.
Based on my understanding, bioelectronic is the application of electronic in biology and medicine fields. Artificial pacemaker and limbs are amongst the application of bioelectronics..amazing, right??

artificial pacemaker

artificial limbs
Other than that, he gives us lecture about low-pass filter and high-pass filter, and also asked us to do some exercise related to this topic.

I'm not pretty sure about the functions both of it, thus I just Google on about them. Here it is:

A low-pass filter is an electronic filter that passes low-frequency signals but attenuates (reduces the amplitude of) signals with frequencies higher than the cutoff frequency. The actual amount of attenuation for each frequency varies from filter to filter. It is sometimes called a high-cut filter, or treble cut filter when used in audio applications. A low-pass filter is the opposite of a high-pass filter.

A high-pass filter (HPF) is an electronic filter that passes high-frequency signals but attenuate (reduces the amplitude of) signals with frequencies lower than the cutoff frequency. The actual amount of attenuation for each frequency varies from filter to filter. A high-pass filter is usually modeled as a linear time-invariant system. It is sometimes called a low-cut filter or bass-cut filter.High-pass filters have many uses, such as blocking DC from circuitry sensitive to non-zero average voltages or RF devices. They can also be used in conjunction with a low-pass filter to make a bandpass filter.

Later on, he teach us about Doppler signal discriminator which is used in bioelectronics and also the mysteries of human DNA..we feel overwhelmed knowing that the length of human DNA is 120 billion km which is equivalent to the distance from Earth-Sun for 400 times!! Wow!!

~Doppler signal discriminator~
~Mysteries of human DNA~

                                                         Shinya Yamanaka

Hurmm,,maybe you're wondering..who's this guy?? Based on Dr Azran..this guy is one of the famous person in the bioelectronic fields. Recently in this year, he won the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine along with John Gurdon for the discovery that mature cells can be converted to stem cells. Below is his bibliography..=)

Shinya Yamanaka born September 4, 1962. He is a Japanese physician and researcher of adult stem cells.  He serves as the director of Center for iPS Cell Research and Application and a professor at the Institute for Frontier Medical Sciences at Kyoto University as a senior investigator at the UCSF-affiliatedJ.David Gladstone Institutes in San Francisco, California; and as a professor of anatomy at University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Yamanaka is also the current president of the International Society for Stem Cell Research (ISSCR).

He received the Wolf Prize in Medicine in 2011 with Rudolf Jaenisch the Millenium Technology Prize in 2012 together with Linus Torvalds. In 2012 he along with John Gurdon were awarded the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine for the discovery that mature cells can be converted to stem cells.

Before the class end..Dr Kamal tells us that we'll have a group project..that is making poster.. I've got title of Computer Control System..each group has 3 or 4 members. Mine has 4..2 boys and girls.. Everybody seems shocked when Dr Kamal said that we're going to present our work in front of other lecturers..OMG!! The dateline is 27th Nov..hopefully we can make and try our best..^_^..as the saying goes around : Practice makes perfect..

Reflection 3

FRIDAY,
26th October,2012.

Assalamualaikum and a very good afternoon everyone!!

First of all,,I would like to say "Happy Eidul Adha 2012" to all of the readers out there!!
May Allah save and bless us in every our single steps..;)

Okay,,now I tell you more about what we've done in our previous class during last Tuesday..(23rd October,2012).

TUESDAY,
23rd October,2012.

Today my class start at 10 a.m..while the other class start at 8 a.m..they have a test for Ultiboard. Mine, does not have yet because we did not learn yet about Ultiboard. Just after this we gonna learn about it..and according to my friends,,Ultiboard is more challenger than Multisim. I'm quite nervous knowing that..huhu..@_@..

At 10.15 a.m,,the other class finish their test,,from my observation,,they look happy,,maybe the question given is quite easy thus they can answer it with a broad smile on face..=)

Before start the class,,Mr Redzuan showed us our mark for Multisim test last week. Praised to God,,I got 46.50 out of 50 for the overall mark..^^

Next, Mr Redzuan give us a hand-out paper containing circuit that we will use for Ultiboard. However,,we must draw the circuit using Multisim software first,,and only then we can convert it into Ultiboard. He gave us 15 minutes to draw the circuit into Multisim. Luckily,, I finished it in 15 minutes sharply..haha..

~schematic circuit~

After that,,we must export the circuit into Ultiboard. It's not too difficult at first as we just click 'Transfer' button to make it into Ultiboard and then it will show up all the components that we've drawn. However, be sure that all the components are real components, or else the circuit cannot be convert into Ultiboard. On the left-hand side of the page, there is a toolbox that we use to change the settings of the circuit. For now, Mr Redzuan only asked us to use board outline. Then, he teach us how to change board shape by clicking right-hand side. We can make the shape based on our own creativity.

Before that,,we must 'off' all the top buttons and only 'on' several buttons so that the circuit can functions well. Okay,,after creating our own design of board, the next step is transferring all the components on the board. Be aware with the overlapping of the wire. It can non-function the board. The process is quite tired because we need to check all the wire connected have no errors and use auto route to modified it. If else, we need to alter it again. Green means the wire is truly connected and red means errors occur.

Lastly, Mr Redzuan showed us how to make the board double-sided,, means that we can change the upper components and placed it below the board,,just click 'Properties' button to change it.

That's all for today's session. Next week, Mr Redzuan will teach us more about Ultiboard since he said that we've a few things that we did not learn yet.

Reflection 2

2nd October, 2012

KRIIIIINNNGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
*   It's 6 o'clock already...*
   * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

arghhh!!!! how I miss to get up from my bed so much....
with the refreshing and cool air....it seems to be something impossible for me to get up earlier today...
but..I had to..for the sake of my future..
today is my fourth class of Introduction of Electronic System..
thanx to God..I've done my previous classes succesfully...
and today..I'll attend the next class with full of determination!!
yeay!! :)

okay2...stay on the line TEYHA..
don't be too excited..hehe..

my class start at 8 a.m...
no wonder if I've feel too lazy!!
today..our class was held at Electronic Workshop..
it's not at MJIIT building but located next to Dewan Kuliah 4..
this is my first time I go here...
actually..this workshop belongs to Diploma students..but as our own workshop (Degree students) are still under construction..so we've to use theirs...sorry guys..huhu.. ^^

once I arrived there..
there are only a few students who just arrived too..
and I'm glad because Mr Redzuan don't come yet..(means that I'm earlier)..hehe

8 a.m..our class starts..
today..Mr Redzuan had intoduced us to MULTISIM..
hurm..maybe you are wondering too..what is multisim,right??

for your information..(based on Wikipedia)
Multisim is an electronic schematic capture and simulation program which is part of a suite of circuit design programs, along with NI Ultiboard. Multisim is one of the few circuit design programs to employ the original Berkeley SPECE based software simulation. Multisim was originally created by a company named Electronic Workbench which is now a division of National Instruments, Multisim includes microcontroller simulation (formerly known as MultiMCU), as well as integrated import and export features to the Printed Circuit Board layout software in the suite,NI Ultiboard.

from other website said that multisim is a program designed to help users design circuits, capture schematics and identify errors with circuits.

as for me..I think multisim can simply be described as a program that help us in doing electronic job with more efficient, accurate, easier and systematic..

after we were given short briefing about it..Mr Redzuan asks us to do some lab activity..
we were quite nervous as this is our first time using this software..NI Multisim 10.1.
it is a software where we can create our project circuit easily without doing it in real life..
only a few steps taken and then..bling2!!
our project circuit already done!! ^^
1.access to this software--> search National Instruments

2.search for Multisim--> click on it,you already can access to the software.

3.view the settings at the top,,you'll find many tools box..click on the    "Components" item.

4.once click on it, you'll see the "Select the components" box..there you'll found such items like database,       groups and family..

5. click on database..use "User Database"..click on groups..then choose which groups you prefer such as Basic, Sources, Diodes and Transistors..done with that, choose "Family" items based on whats groups you choose earlier.

6. now..choose which components you want..double-click on it to make it appear on the workspace..put it on which location you want on the workspace..

7. you can rotate its position by clicking the right-click or change its power by double-clicking on it..

8. once done placing all the components  you want, connect them with wires.

9. drag one components to the next component..(wire will automatically form)..then, choose "Grounding" from the "Groups" to ground the circuit.

10. finally, run the circuit by pressing Run button at the top of the page or click the Green "Play" triangle to simulate the circuit..DONE!! ^_^

tutorial on how to use multisim

after finishing Multisim, Mr Redzuan show us how to transfer Multisim to Ultiboard..
with only a click, our 2D project turn into a 3D project..
of course we feel really amazed with it!!
as the tiny objects can be seen clearly in 3D shape using Ultiboard..
how amazing it is!! =)
at the same time, it make me feel more excited to explore more about this course..

~Mr Redzuan explains to us about Multisim.~

~our masterplan in making circuit using multisim~

~taraa!! results that we get from the activity..=) ~

how we feel so amazed seeing that..
if you all can see LED on the circuit, it will light up and blink in red colour when we connect all the wires and close the circuit.

                             ~results when multisim(2D) turn into ultiboard(3D)..soo cutee~

before end the class, Dr Kamal has come and give us some advices and guidances on how to make a good blog..I only got 20 marks from my first attempt (blog)..and I will try to improve my next entry..=)

                                                          ~software that we use..=) ~

that's all that I can tell you right now about Multisim and Ultiboard..
see you soon!! ^_^
